Start with the physical task that is difficult
If holding an aim control is uncomfortable, look for a hold-to-toggle setting. If coordinating two sticks is difficult, look for camera assistance or controller remapping. If the issue is keeping track of an on-screen object, check whether the game offers a supported lock-on or visual aid. Write down one change you want to observe so that you can test options individually.
For The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog documents Aiming Mode under its Holds and Presses options, camera assistance under Assistance, and a separate Lock-On Aim setting. Its support article also distinguishes the Lock-On strength control from the Aim Assist slider. These are title-specific controls whose names and availability can differ in another game.
Test hold versus toggle in a quiet single-player scene
Use a direct controller connection, load a safe single-player area and record your original settings. Leave camera and lock-on controls as they are. With Aiming Mode on Hold, press and release the documented aim control and see whether the camera leaves that state when you release it. Switch only Aiming Mode to Toggle and repeat. In the documented behavior, the first press enters the state and a second press exits it.
These are expected results from the game’s published settings. Record whether the control is easier for you to operate and whether you can reliably leave the state. Restore the initial setting if needed. Keeping the other options fixed makes the comparison about the holding requirement.
Keep external input changes distinct from game features
A built-in option runs inside the game and is documented by its developer. An adapter or app that modifies controller reports acts before the game receives them. ConsoleTuner describes mapping and programmable input in Gtuner IV. Check compatibility and publisher permission separately for any tool that changes inputs, and start with the options the game documents for the mode you plan to play.
